Application of refractory castables in metallurgical industry

 (1) Refractory castable for ironmaking system


   In the ironmaking system, there are many refractory castables used in the blast furnace taphole, and ASC refractory castables are generally used. ASC castables are generally low cement or cement castables, mainly composed of Al2O3 aggregate, SiC, carbon, refractory cement and various additives. The parts used are different, and the materials used are different, such as the main ditch, slag ditch, branch ditch, etc.


   (2) Refractory castable for hot metal pretreatment


   Refractory castables are mainly used in the application of molten iron ladle with aluminum silicon carbide carbon castables in the furnace bottom, molten pool, and slag line. Spraying is an important device for hot metal pretreatment. Nowadays, most of the refractories used for spraying are cast as a whole, and the material is mainly Al2O3-SiO2 system. The integral spray made of the castable has the characteristics of uniform organization, no joints, good thermal shock resistance and long life.


   Refractory castable for electric furnace steelmaking


   The application of refractory castables in electric furnaces is mainly concentrated on the electric furnace cover. The castable integral prefabrication technology is generally used in the electric triangle area. The integral castable furnace cover may become a development trend of electric furnace cover materials in the future. The material of the prefabricated block is divided into corundum, high-aluminum, and mullite. The user provides drawings, parts of use, and temperature. The manufacturer uses suitable refractory castables according to the drawings to cast into preforms, and deliver them after curing and baking. Transported to the user's location can be spliced and used on site.


  Refractory castable for refining outside the furnace


   (1) Refractory castable for RH furnace. A small amount of high-aluminum castables and aluminum-magnesium castables are used in the lining of the RH furnace. The upper part of the RH vacuum chamber adopts Al2O3-MgO·Al2O3 castable integral lining or gunning integral lining. The outer wall of the dip tube of the RH furnace is made of integral aluminum-magnesium castable.


   (2) Refractory castable for LF furnace. The material used for the curtain wall of the LF furnace cover is mainly high-aluminum or corundum series castables. High alumina-spinel refractory castables are mostly used to pour large bricks in the impact area of the bottom of the package;


   (3) Refractory castable for CAS refining equipment. The CAS refining device is divided into two parts, the upper part and the lower part. The refractory materials used are all castables; the upper part mostly uses low-expansion Al2O3-SiO2 castables. The lower part is mostly corundum-spinel series castables with fused corundum added with MgO fine powder. In the later stage, to extend the service life of the device, magnesia-aluminum gunning materials are mostly used.


   (4) Refractory castable for ladle. The varieties of refractory castables for ladle mainly use aluminum-magnesium castables and aluminum-magnesium spinel castables.
