Hot repair of glass furnace wall tiles

During the glass production process, kiln wall tiles are subjected to extremely high temperatures and chemical attack, so professional thermal repair is crucial. Currently, our kilns use cast 41# AZS brick vertical laying technology, which significantly improves the durability of the kiln and reduces the frequency of hot repairs. However, even with this advanced material, professional thermal repair techniques are still required to deal with possible pool tile damage.

For the hot repair of pool wall tiles, we mainly use the following two methods:

(1) Cooling water pipe method

This is a method of repairing pool wall tiles through localized cooling. We choose seamless steel pipes with a diameter of 20 to 50mm and insert them accurately along the eroded tank wall to 50 to 80mm below the liquid level inside the kiln. By controlling the flow and temperature of the cooling water, the nearby liquid glass solidifies to form a protective layer. During this process, the outlet water temperature needs to be strictly controlled at around 50°C to ensure the repair effect. Although this method is effective, it will increase certain heat and water consumption. At the same time, it is more suitable for the upper area of the pool wall, and has limited effect on the situation where the entire brick is eroded over a large area.

(2) External iron brick method

When the pool wall tiles are eroded to a thickness of only 30mm, we will use the external iron brick method to repair it. The specific method is to stick a 150mm thick homogeneous brick (also called iron-tied brick) on the outside of the eroded pool wall brick. This exterior tile needs to undergo strict screening and preheating treatment, and the preheating temperature is controlled at around 80°C. During the lamination process, it is necessary to ensure that the contact surface between bricks is smooth and seamless, and the brick seams should be as small as possible to improve the tightness of the lamination and the repair effect. This method can effectively extend the service life of the pool wall bricks and improve the overall stability of the kiln.
