The properties of white corundum and its application in refractories

After continuous technological improvement and industry trials, white corundum abrasives have been recognized by customers. White corundum has high hardness, good self-sharpening properties, and excellent grinding and polishing performance. At the same time, through technical improvements, the production cost is slightly reduced. In the electric melting process, it becomes complicated due to chemical reaction, homogeneous polycrystalline transformation, recrystallization and co-dissolution, but it is mainly realized by the powder having a larger surface area and higher surface energy.

What is white corundum?

White corundum, a kind of artificial abrasive. The content of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) is more than 98%, and contains a small amount of iron oxide, silicon oxide and other ingredients, which is white.White corundum is made from industrial alumina powder, smelted at a high temperature of more than 2000 degrees in an electric arc, and then cooled. It is crushed and shaped, iron is removed by magnetic separation, and sieved into a variety of particle sizes. Its texture is dense, high in hardness, and the particles form sharp corners shape.

The performance and application of white corundum

1. White corundum has high purity, good self-sharpening, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, and stable thermal performance; the hardness is slightly higher than that of brown corundum, the toughness is slightly lower, the grinding ability is strong, the heat generation is small, and the efficiency is high; It can be made into abrasive tools, suitable for grinding fine-grained abrasives such as high-carbon steel, high-speed steel and stainless steel, and can also be used for precision casting and advanced refractory materials.

2. The white corundum powder has good chemical stability and good insulation. The white corundum is harder and more brittle than the brown corundum, and has stronger cutting force. It can be used for solid structure and coated abrasive tools. Wet or dry blasting sand is suitable for crystal, Ultra-precision grinding and polishing in the electronics industry and the production of advanced refractory materials, etc., suitable for processing hardened steel, alloy steel, high-speed steel, high-carbon steel and other materials with harder hardness and greater tensile strength. White corundum abrasives can also be used as contact media , Insulators and precision casting sand, etc.

3.The white corundum powder does not affect the color of the processed parts. It can be used for sandblasting in a process where iron powder residue is strictly prohibited. The powder grade is very suitable for wet sandblasting and polishing operations. The processing speed is fast and the quality is high. The amount of iron oxide contained is very low. Sandblasting with iron residues is strictly prohibited.
